{"id":1228,"date":"2013-09-22T01:22:54","date_gmt":"2013-09-22T01:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stjohn.openbar.com\/airplane\/?p=1228"},"modified":"2013-09-22T01:23:53","modified_gmt":"2013-09-22T01:23:53","slug":"engine-start-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stjohn.openbar.com\/airplane\/?p=1228","title":{"rendered":"Engine Start, Part 2."},"content":{"rendered":"<ol>\n<li>5 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Armed with last weekend&#8217;s knowledge and suspicion, David and I headed up to OXR to debug and correct the mag and start wiring, then actually start the engine. \u00a0 \u00a0We had a copy of The AeroElectric Connection and more importantly, the airport gate card, which allowed us to come and go as we pleased.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we knew what was wrong, it was puzzling, because we were trying to follow Bob&#8217;s diagram and make an open circuit for one thing while making a closed circuit for another. \u00a0 Maddening.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, we did figure it out and we were rewarded with the sound of an airplane coming to life.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"420\" height=\"315\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/L9nVD97euiI?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Hooray! Huge milestone, and only three squawks:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>No RPM reading. \u00a0 This is most likely a bad ground or a severed wire coming from the pickup on the magneto.<\/li>\n<li>No Oil Temperature reading. \u00a0 Maybe this shares a ground with the tach sensor.<\/li>\n<li>(and this is a big one) \u00a0Governor operation reversed. \u00a0 The prop does cycle and the governor doesn&#8217;t leak, but it operates the wrong way. \u00a0 I need to set it up so the prop increases pitch when I pull the blue lever back.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>No leaks, no fires, no pieces flying off. \u00a0 I&#8217;d call it a good day!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>5 hours.
